Michelle ObamaKey Lesson: You catch more bees with honey than with vinegar. Eschew affectation or pretense, don’t pontificate or dispense wisdom. Your authenticity will shine through.

This week Michelle Obama’s trip to China made headline news with her charm and her gentle political persuasion.  A goodwill tour (sans political tension and rhetoric), she used her version of panda diplomacy to raise issues of minority rights, internet access and free expression as universal rights. She found several opportunities to openly raise these topics – at a high school, the Stanford Center of Peking University, and lunch at a Tibetan restaurant.

The Washington Post reports the First Lady’s trip to China was far more substantive than expected … “displaying Obama’s deft ability to mix diplomacy with her personal narrative.” She used her personal experience, her authentic self, to share core ideas important to her and to American values. Obama emphasized how she benefited from the civil rights movement, coming from a working class family and then graduating from elite universities.

This week our Grounded Leader is First Lady, Michelle Obama for demonstrating extraordinary social health, showing the world how to be connected and transparent while staying true to herself and her higher purpose.
