Graham McKayThis week’s Grounded Leader, Graham McKay, was an “inquisitive internationalist,” a man who possessed the global literacies to expand his business at a time when his own country, South Africa, lacked a strong educational system. McKay had a dream to become a global player and needed to create a strong people strategy. So he invested in building education and training companies to compete on a global scale.

Graham McKay was chairman of SABMiller.  He guided the company from a South African brewer into one of the largest beverage companies in the world headquartered in London. SABMiller owns brands like Miller and Foster’s.

A man who had a dream, a deep commitment to his own self development and the development of his employees stretched his company into expansive growth and became a dominant player on the world stage.  McKay’s vocational health was the foundation of his leadership. His personal mastery and drive to success is his leadership legacy.  Graham McKay passed away in December, 2013. This week we pay tribute to this leader’s great grounded leadership – Graham McKay, our Grounded Leader of the Week.
