My mantra—and one I know you’ve heard me say often—is “Leadership is personal.” Well, this week’s Grounded Leader of the Week is taking leadership quite personally.
Ron Shaich is Founder and CEO of Panera Bread. Last week, Ron was inspired to take personal action after reading the New York Times article, “On the Edge of Poverty, at the Center of of a Debate on Food Stamps.” Not resorting to Undercover Boss gimmicks, Ron is taking a personal stand to highlight poverty and show that he and the company he leads, Panera Bread, care about hunger in the United States.
Ron is keeping a daily blog of his SNAP Challenge on LinkedIn. This week he is living on $4.50 a day, the average daily benefit per person provided by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP formerly known as Food Stamps). Watch CNN’s interview by clicking on the photo.
For showing passion about his core values and leading Panera to do the same, Ron Shaich is our Grounded Leader of the Week.
